Early Life
After growing up in Western and Northwestern PA, Richard graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Spanish. He began his teaching career at Bradford (PA) high school as a Spanish instructor. After relocation to Arizona, to obtain his Master's Degree, he accepted a position as a Spanish professor at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
His work as a professor
Richard spent 40 year career at Edinboro University, ending as a full professor. He introduced new courses in culture and an annual winter session trip to the Yucatan Peninsula. This allowed his students to study Mayan culture and practice their Spanish speaking skills. He was awarded a professor emertitus when he retired in 2006. Richard was one of the earliest professors to embrace technology. When he was teaching at Edinboro, he was also teaching remote classes at Clarion University.
Retired Life
After retirement, Richard began pursuing photography as a second profession. His photos have been exhibited in the Lexington, KY LexArts gallery exhibit on Central KY. In addition, the Warren, PA, Public Library, the Copper State Credit Union in AZ, and the Carefree Christian Bible Church, AZ also have his photos on display. The PA Wildlife magazine, the KY Explorer, the Erie Times, have published his photos and essays. Pursuing photography as a hobby allows him the chance to showcase the wildlife and natural beauty of PA, KY, and AZ.
